Labor general files, 1919-1980.

The records document Consumers' Research's political and consumer oriented interests in the labor movement in the United States and the National Labor Relations Board. Mostly a clipping file, these records concern the growth of trade unionism, union corruption, alleged communist or leftist ties to labor, the National Labor Relations Board, and right to work laws. Most of the material was collected after Consumers' Research's own strike in late 1935 and was used to bolster CR's stand on unions. A large secion of this series documents organized labor's effects on consumer products and prices. Included are correpondence, notes, news and magazine clippings, and miscellaneous publications. Subjects include labor, labor education and training, trade unions, union suppression, left-wing unionism, Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO), CIO-Communist link, increasing opposition to labor and labor violence, American Federation of Labor (AFL), communists in the AFL, unionization of professional experts, strikes, anti-labor attitudes and practices, labor conditions and labor policies in industry, unemployment, technological unemployment, labor in relation to the consumer, labor vs. the consumer, labor vs. agriculture, labor vs. labor (1937-1938), labor against government, and labor vs. veterans.
